In early 2012, Microsoft announced that they were discontinuing their on-premises HomeGroup product, and moving all HomeGroup functionality to the Windows 8.1 feature called Family & Family Sharing. A user's HomeGroup membership is tied to a Windows account. If the Windows account is removed or deactivated, the HomeGroup membership is lost as well. On August 8, 2013, Microsoft announced a refresh of the Office 365 cloud applications, with the goal of addressing customer feedback.
