So, I've put together a search tool where you can just type in the model of a WD Marvel series drive and it'll tell you the family. It should work for 99% of drives, only a few really new ones might not be in there yet. Here's the tool: -medics.com/forum/wd-fa ... html#p8265_________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop Doomer Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 24th, 2017, 14:27 Joined: September 29th, 2005, 12:02Posts: 3550Location: ChicagoCoolyou probably need to fix some bugs though-00AAMB0 is not a Jamaica 4k-00B7WT0 is not a Pinnacle-00AZ1Y0 is not a Diablo 3D-00NCVW0 is not a Hawkmost like many others are detected incorrectly but I didn't check further_________________SAN, NAS, RAID, Server, and HDD Data Recovery.Top data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 24th, 2017, 20:41 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RIDoomer wrote:Coolyou probably need to fix some bugs though-00AAMB0 is not a Jamaica 4k-00B7WT0 is not a Pinnacle-00AZ1Y0 is not a Diablo 3D-00NCVW0 is not a Hawkmost like many others are detected incorrectly but I didn't check furtherI guess none of those are codes I've got in my list yet. It's probably just returning the result closest alphabetically to that after dash code. I'll need to work in an IF statement to not return results that are only "close" but not exact matches.I don't suppose you know what those families are so I can add them to the list?_________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 24th, 2017, 20:55 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RIOK, I fixed the field to only return exact matches so you won't get false families anymore.By all means feel free to post additional ones you know so I can add them to the search. I've got a running list here that I based it off of: -medics.com/forum/ident ... -t636.htmlBut, I'm always looking to add more. Seems that different drives are popular in different places, so they don't all ever seem to cross my desk.Eventually, I plan to add a feature where it'll pull up a list of other models from the family for easy reference when searching for donors._________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop Doomer Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 10:33 Joined: September 29th, 2005, 12:02Posts: 3550Location: Chicagodata-medics wrote:I don't suppose you know what those families are so I can add them to the list?I doI checked your list and found nothing interesting for me but for your effort I'm gonna tell you the name of the first family-00AAMB0 is Draco_________________SAN, NAS, RAID, Server, and HDD Data Recovery.Top data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 14:16 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RIDoomer wrote:data-medics wrote:I don't suppose you know what those families are so I can add them to the list?I doI checked your list and found nothing interesting for me but for your effort I'm gonna tell you the name of the first family-00AAMB0 is DracoThanks, added that one. I'm not sure what the obsession is with keeping WD families a "secret". It really only takes 2 seconds to read it out of module C5 anyway when one arrives. I've just yet to have any of those codes show up here.Regardless, the tool is more just intended for quick reference. Not to reveal any new information.I plan to eventually add the functionality where it'll pull up a list of other models common to the family for faster donor searching. But, perhaps I should keep that tucked away in my forum's secrets section since apparently WD drive families are such a secret. _________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop Doomer Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 15:12 Joined: September 29th, 2005, 12:02Posts: 3550Location: Chicagodata-medics wrote:It really only takes 2 seconds to read it out of module C5 anyway when one arrives. I'll admit, my tool is a work in progress (I only started it yesterday), but one that could be quite useful to us all, especially if others contribute updates, corrections, etc. and we fine tune it.I don't claim to be infallible._________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 16:22 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RIfzabkar wrote:Some people get a perverse buzz out of telling you that you're wrong, or that they know something that you don't know.I think you are exactly right._________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop Doomer Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 16:28 Joined: September 29th, 2005, 12:02Posts: 3550Location: ChicagoSome people are just not smart enough to learn but sometimes they tell funny things _________________SAN, NAS, RAID, Server, and HDD Data Recovery.Top data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 16:43 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RISome others might be off because I added them to my original list before PC-3000 had a specific family for them. So I just listed a family who's utility was close enough to work with the drive.-00WN4A0 is TresXLB2 which wasn't in the software a year ago._________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop data-medics Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 16:48 Joined: April 3rd, 2011, 0:19Posts: 2020Location: Providence, RIDoomer wrote:Some people are just not smart enough to learn but sometimes they tell funny things _________________Data Medics - Hard Drive, SSD, and RAID Data Recovery Service CompanyTop saltwater Post subject: Re: WD Family Search ToolPosted: July 25th, 2017, 16:55 Joined: November 3rd, 2013, 13:04Posts: 300Location: Hungarydata-medics wrote:I notice a lot of people constantly asking what family a certain WD drive is.
