Mathematica 10 Keygen ((NEW)) Ubuntu Mate

While I was going through some of the first things that I am missing (I am rather ignorant about Windows - I have lived with Linux as my main operating system for around 10 years now) I had a look at the Windows PowerShell for Windows Server 2008 R2 tutorial that I wrote about in Transforming a Windows Server 2008 to 2012 .

There are many tools for generating ssh keys. Before I was using ssh-keygen but the -m option did not work for me, meaning that I was asked for a passphrase each time I generated a new key. I also tried other tools like ssh-keytool but they all seem to be only half-baked (e.g. the GUI version of ssh-keygen).

I would like to make an automated script that calls ssh-keygen and creates some pub/private keypairs that I will use later on. In principle everything works fine with... ssh-keygen -b 2048 -t rsa -f /tmp/sshkey -q...except that it asks me for the passphrase that would encrypt the keys. This make -at present- the automation difficult.

ssh-keygen -b 2048 -t rsa -f /tmp/sshkey -qssh-keygen -b 2048 -t rsa -f /tmp/sshkey -q

Or it could be a lot more complex. But this is the point where I get stuck. I would like to avoid shell scripting and use something like awk or any other command line utility.

I have read that the passphrase is not needed at the first time that you use ssh-keygen. I have tried several options but none of them works. Basically I use the -N option and I use the randomness of /dev/urandom as the entropy source but when I run the script the output is always the same.

Just to be clear: I do NOT want to read the passphrase from the user. I just want to know if there is any way to get the passphrase from ssh-keygen without asking the user to enter it. I realize I can just read it from /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key but I was wondering if there is some way I can get the passphrase somehow.
